Rigging or Mocap clean up Capabilities?

I'm a newbie at this stuff. I was wondering, if maybe in the future, there would be some more advanced options.

I really LOVE that Deep Motion Animate 3D does pretty much everything at the touch of a button. I think it's the best online cloud mocap software there is. I love that you don't need a mocap suit or body trackers.

However, often I get a result animation that is ALMOST perfect, but the end of the animation finishes weird. Or the beginning looks crazy, but the ending is perfect. I was wondering if maybe in the future there would be some options for the user to be able to clean up the mocap keyframes themselves. Even as a premiere feature,  that would be amazing!

  • VoiceOver Mocap It is a very good idea. For professional animators they can download the result .FBX and fix up the animation in DCC tools like Maya, Motion Builder, Blender, iClone, ..., etc.  However not everyone is trained to do 3D animation in DCC tools. For prosumer users probably some in product clean-up tools will make sense.

More specifically are you suggesting that we provide simple "trimming" / "cutting" kind of editing tools online or more advanced per-joint fix-up tools online ? By "per joint fix-up tool" I meant if you see that "this elbow position is way wrong" in a particular frame you can click the correct elbow position in the video frame to tell the AI "fix the 2D position of the elbow to here".  It will be time consuming to manually click the joint positions of multiple frames in an animation,  but it can be handy if you just have a few frames and a few bad joints to fix.

GongfuTiger something like basic offset tools via ik or even Fk, Ikinema Webanimate IK solver would be perfect.  Wrists and head joints need an offset tool of this sort.

  • Yes something like this would be great. As something like, an advanced feature. May be great for someone who is intermediate or advance, so they can create FBX mocap animation, and also clean all in the same application. Maybe something where the viewer can see the key frames, and for a particular key frame, they can edit the position of the joint in X, Y, Z space.

Other ideas, are more customization options that may help the mocap result. I really like Physics Filler and FBX Frame Reducer as options. It would be great if there were even more options that help accuracy in the future.

Even as premium options for members who pay a fee, I think people would pay for advance options if it helped their result drastically.

Also some small ideas like allowing the viewer to control intensity or angle of the light once the mocap is done processing. I really love the Studio viewer once the mocap is uploaded. Would be fun to try different lighting options and intensity.

Another idea that may help gain even more eyes and attention to deep motion, is a record feature for Studio viewer. I really love seeing the mocap in the Studio, but really wish I could easily record what we see in the window.

This allows us (even newbies) to show to other friends, advance mocap editors, etc. Also would make it easy to capture / record to create a video we could upload to youtube. With more people seeing Deep Motion on youtube, more new people will visit the Deep Motion site.

The reason I found Deep Motion was from youtube. I'm very basic, but I had to try for myself! I think anyone who likes games, likes to dance, likes to perform, we all find mocap intriguing. To see the videos on youtube, and seeing how easy it is to use Deep Motion, it brings more and more people to use the app (example: "I don't have to be a mocap guru to capture cool motion? I only need Deep Motion and a cell phone? Let me check Deep Motion out!)

    • VoiceOver Mocap Thank you for the suggestions. We will consider them with our other features TBD. Regarding "Physics Filter", we just released a minor update v2.2.1 to make the Physics Filter work better for custom characters. Check out the video in this Reddit post for a quick demo of the "No Physics vs Physics":

About video recording function of Previewer (I think that is what you referred to as "Studio") we do have a few MP4 render out options under the Video output settings that let you render the animation results as .mp4 files for download.  There are a couple more options (e.g. "fixed camera" vs "cinematic camera") we may expose to the settings in the future. If you have requests for specific mp4 render-out features welcome to let us know.
