Character is off the ground

When importing the animation into Maya to transfer to my target character, it snaps up off the ground and often twists parts of the model/rig. I assumed this was because the demo character was larger. However, when I uploaded my custom character, the same thing happened.

While I can try to make use of the raw animation on the custom character, that version lacks the IK/FK controls for cleaning up the animation.

  • Just in case someone says "it's your rig" here's the mocap applied to the same model without the rig. It's the exact same FBX used for the custom character upload. Same issue.

I even went as far as checking the joint orientation of your demo character, which weirdly has the spine and legs oriented to world space. The difference in orientation doesn't seem to matter much given the fact that the custom models are identical to each other and have the same issue.

  • The trick to fixing the alignment issue appears to be to use the TPose version of the FBX file. This does (at first glance) seem to fix that issue even when using the demo character. However, as you can see from the shots, it doesn't fix the height offset for either character.
